Hey I actually just re-watched the first season of the show and I was reminded about how great this show really is. I had actually never watched the full season and over the past couple days I finally took the opportunity. I think the more simple this game is the better experience of watching it becomes.
To start with it was edited like a documentary. The show has continued the format somewhat, but it felt a lot more authentic when it was more about capturing the experience rather the shock value that today's show seems to be going for.
It was interesting seing how alliance was treated like a dirty word. To me the way Rich played was not even close to being devious or a snake. As a person though he's a pompus dick. Richard haha. But his strategy was very genuine and well planned out. However, Kelly seemed like the better "Survivor" in the true definition of the word. She struggled by far the most throughout. It was a lot easier to play like Richard and to detract yourself from the game.
Back when I used to play games here I saw a lot of that and it got praised by many of us. The drawback of this strategy of playing the game makes most loose interest. People aren't chess pieces, however this game can be fun when you take emotional risks and invest yourself. I feel like sometimes we're afraid of putting ourselves out there and afraid of how we will personally handle it. If we can all be genuine with ourselves and each other and yet take the time, forgive, and listen in the end these games would be a lot more fun to play and to watch on television.
Maybe these are just my opinion and for my own puzzlement I don't even know why I actually chose to post this to begin with. I guess what I should end with is that we always got to go back to the beginning to understand where we are at now. This was, is, and still is a great game. Enjoy yourselfs and remember that it means more if you don't hide!
